Samsung Engineering’s Global Engineering Center삼성엔지니어링의 신사옥인 글로벌 엔지니어링 센터는 27,604㎡의 대지에 지상 15층, 지하 4층, 건축연면적 186,023㎡로 국내 오피스 건축물 중 5위에 해당하는 초대형 건물로 미국 HOK사와 삼우종합건축사사무소에서 설계하고 삼성엔지니어링이 직접 시공하였다.건축물 이외의 조경에도 다양한 친환경적 요소가 도입되었다. 이 중에서 우수를 중수화하여 생태연못의 용수 및 조경용 관수로 적극적으로 이용할 수 있도록 한 것은 친환경 측면에서 높이 평가할 수 있다. 조경면적은 총 8,396㎡로, 1층 실외공간, 선큰(Sunken)공간, 지상 3층 옥상공간, 최고층 옥상공간으로 구분할 수 있다. 2,768㎡의 공개공지를 포함하는 1층 실외공간은 전면광장 및 분수대, 비오톱 식생대, 생태연못으로 구성되어 있다. 화강석으로 포장된 전면광장은 단정하고 모던한 분위기를 도출할 수 있도록 디자인되었다. 건물의 전면에는 단풍나무를 혼식하고 광장에는 과감한 와인색의 플랜터에 노각나무를 식재하여 화강석 포장이 줄 수 있는 단조로움을 극복하였다. 또한 동일한 수형의 대교목 이팝나무를 가로수로 열식하여 건물과 수목 사이에서 발생할 수 있는 스케일의 이질감을 극복하였다. 건물의 가장 중앙에 위치하고 지하 직원식당과 연결된 선큰공간은 GEC에서 가장 아름다운 공간 중 하나로 꼽힌다. 벽천을 전면으로 하는 이 공간은 지하 직원식당에서 바라보는 경관을 철저히 고려하고 검은색의 고흥석 벽천과 대비하여 나무의 화색, 수피 등이 잘 어울릴 수 있도록 디자인 되었다. 벽천 앞에는 벽천의 검은색과 대비하여 화색과 수피의 아름다움이 잘 드러날 수 있는 산수유, 서부해당화, 복숭아, 흰말채, 노랑말채가 심어져 수목 자체의 아름다움을 드러내고 있다. 청단풍 하나도 벽체와의 대비를 고려하여 수피가 녹색인 것만 꼼꼼히 골라서 식재하였다. 3층의 옥상정원은 직원들이 건물 내에서 자유롭게 휴식할 수 있도록 배려하여 디자인되었다. 3층의 옥상정원은 건물이 매우 크기 때문에 3층의 여러 곳에 분산되어 위치하고 있다.옥상정원의 첫 느낌은 매우 고급스럽다. 건물의 컨셉 단계부터 옥상정원을 계획하여 처음부터 관목뿐만이 아닌 교목을 심을 수 있는 정원이 조성될 수 있도록 하였다. It is one of the five largest office buildings in Korea, designed by SAMOO Architects & Engineers and constructed by Samsung Engineering.The new construction includes a variety of sustainable features of landscape architecture. For example, rainwater is captured and filtered to provide water for irrigation. The total green space of 8,396 square meters is composed of the outdoor space on the 1st floor, the sunken space, the rooftop garden on the 3rd floor, and the rooftop on the top floor. The outdoor space on the 1st floor, which includes the public open space of 2,768 square meters, consists of a plaza, a fountain, a biotope vegetation zone, and an ecological pond. The plaza paved with granite stone is designed to create a decent and modern atmosphere. In front of the building are planted maple trees and around the plaza are placed red wine colored planters with Korean Mountain Camellias, which help break the monotony of the plaza’s granite pavement. The sunken space connected to the staff cafeteria on the basement is arguably one of the most beautiful areas throughout the entire building. With much consideration on the view from the cafeteria, a wall fountain is installed on the front wall and the color of the trees and the texture of the trees’ bark are carefully selected so that there is a wonderful harmony among these landscape architecture elements. In front of the wall fountain are planted cornelian cherry, M. micromalus, C. alba, and garden balsam to demonstrate their own beauty and create a vivid contrast to the wall covered with black stones. The rooftop garden on the 3rd floor is designed to offer a space where employees can relax and interact with each other. As the building itself is huge, the rooftop garden is scattered on various spots of the 3rd floor. Planned on the earliest stage of the design process, the rooftop garden can accommodate not only shrubs and bushes but also some large trees.

Based on the man-power development which is their management policy, the Ingenium open to the public in order to create vibrant workplace and develop capability of staff. The LIG Ingenium designed by Gansam Architecture is not only a training institute but also a resort. It has five floors above ground and two underground including education facilities such as seminar room, multimedia room and multi-purpose auditorium. Also it has more than 200 rooms and recreational facilities having pastoral scenery. Sacheon, the heart of south coast, is famous for a beautiful setting sun and attractive small islands along the shoreline. For these reason, it would be better to call it recreation site rather than training center.

마리나 베이 싱가포르Marina Bay Singapore이번 글에서는 싱가포르의 대표적인 관광지이자 싱가포르의 새로운 도시 경관을 만들어 내고 있는 마리나 베이 지역을 소개하고자 한다. 마리나 베이는 최근 몇 년 사이에 완공된 2,561개의 객실과 카지노를 가진 마리나 베이 샌즈 호텔(Marina Bay Sands Hotel) 및 DNA구조의 헬릭스 브릿지(Helix Bridge)를 비롯하여 이를 둘러싸고 있는 역사적 유산인 싱가포르 중앙 우체국을 리노베이션(Renovation)한 플러튼 호텔 및 베이 호텔, 50층 이상의 고층주거 및 오피스 빌딩들, 주변 교통과 잘 연결된 쇼핑몰 클러스터, 워터프론트 F&B, 멀라이언 동상, Promenade, Esplanade performing & Art center 등 마리나 베이 워터프론트는 마치 각각의 독특한 색깔과 매력을 풍기는 보석들이 연결되어 있는 목걸이를 보는 듯하다. 마리나 베이는 각각의 구역에 다양하고 독특한 싱가포르의 풍경을 만드는 요소들을 가지고 있으며 싱가포르 특유의 정체성을 가진 에너지를 발산하고 있다. 최근 이 지역은 많은 관광객 및 거주자들이 손꼽아 방문하는 지역으로 많은 사랑을 받고 있으며 싱가포르의 아름다운 도심 스카이라인과 야경 그리고 싱가포르 특유의 정취를 듬뿍 느낄 수 있는 곳이다. 이 글에서는 마리나 베이를 구성하는 여러 가지 요소들을 찾아보고 그 요소들을 소개하고자 한다.

레일로드 파크10년간의 발전이 공원은 버밍햄시 도시계획과에 의해 세밀하고 전략적인 연구의 혜택을 받았다. 이는 전체 도심에 대한 ULI의 연구에 이은 성장과 개선을 위한 핵심 계획을 규정하는 UDA의 새로운 도심 마스터플랜을 포함한다. 이 대상지의 주요 도심 공원이 도심의 남쪽 절반 부분의 성장과 활성화에 기여할 것이라는 합의가 이 작업에서 생겨났다. 버밍햄은 부유하거나 유력한 도시는 아니다. 사실, 여기는 앨라배마 밖의 사람들에게는 시민 평등권 투쟁의 장으로 가장 잘 알려져 있을 것이다. 이 도시는 다른 많은 도시들이 그러했듯 지난 수십 년 동안 도심의 소매 중심지를 텅 비게 하거나 충분히 사용되지 않게 하는 교외로의 탈출을 경험했다. 이러한 현상들은 중요한 일들을 조직하고 실행하는 능력뿐만 아니라, 역사와 교외 이주의 관점에서도 극복해야 할 것이 많다는 인식을 하게 하였다. 오랫동안 논의된 이 공원의 조성은 그런 생각을 극적으로 뒤집었고, 도시 전체가 이제는 자신들 스스로 재생시켜 나갈 수 있음을 확인시켜 주었다. 레일로드 파크가 개장한 4개월 동안, 웨스트엔드(West end)에는 마이너리그 야구장 부지가 확보되어 설계되었고(버밍햄 배론스(마이너리그 야구팀)를 교외에서 돌아오게 하였다), 이스트엔드(East end)에는 ‘문화 용광로(The Cultural Furnace)’를 위한 국내 디자인 공모전이 진행 중이다. 바비큐를 즐기는 도시에서 피트니스 센터들이 생겨나고, 다락방 개조가 공원 주변으로 우후죽순으로 증가하였으며, 이보다 더욱 중요한 것은, 공원이 도시 전체에서 여러 인종이 통합되고, 가장 많이 사용되는 공간이 되었다는 점이다. 다행히도, 모든 이가 이 공원에서 환영받는다는 기분이 들고 쉽게 새로운 사람들을 만날 수 있다. Ten Years of EvolutionThis park was the beneficiary of a thoughtful and strategic series of studies by the City Planning department. This included a ULI study of the entire downtown followed by a new downtown master plan by UDA identifying key initiatives for growth and improvement. Emerging from this work was a consensus that a major downtown park on this site would help organize and stimulate growth in the southern half of the downtown. Birmingham is not a rich or powerful city. In fact, it is perhaps best known to those outside Alabama as a civil rights battleground. The city experienced a flight to the suburbs in previous decades similar to many other cities, leaving parts of the downtown retail core vacant or under utilized. These factors contributed to a sense there that there was much to overcome in terms of history and suburban migration as well as the ability to organize and get significant things done. The realization of this long-discussed park has dramatically reversed that thinking. It has deeply inspired the entire city to now believe it can continue to regenerate itself. Within the 4 months since Railroad Park has opened, it has given rise to site acquisition and design of a minor league ballpark, (Retrieving the Birmingham Barons from thesuburbs!) at the west end. At the east end, a national design competition for the ‘Cultural Furnace’ (See below) is underway. In a city of barbeque, fitness center start-ups and loft conversions are sprouting like mushrooms all around the park perimeter. Even more important, the park has become the most racially integrated and heavily-used space in the entire city. Thankfully, every person feels welcome here and prone to meeting new people.

안다즈 호텔하얏트리젠시(Hyatt Regency)가 최근 선보인 호텔 브랜드인 안다즈는 2009년 1월 안다즈 웨스트 헐리우드(AndazWestHollywood)를 개장하였다. 안다즈는 힌두어로 '개성적 스타일'을 의미하는데, 출장 또는 휴가 목적으로 여행하는 독창적 사고의 소비자들을 목표고객으로 삼고 있다. 호텔의 디자인은 자연소재를 사용하고, 전체적으로 군더더기 없는 우아함을 내세워 내외부 공간 사이의 경계를 허물고 있다. 저명한 해외 아티스트들의 현대미술 작품들이 호텔 전역에 걸쳐 배치되어있다. 본 프로젝트는 기존의 건물과 옥상수영장 데크를 리노베이션하는 과정을 거쳐 완성되었다. 풀장이 있는 옥상 테라스, 소파, 그리고 전망시설 등의 공공공간은 안다즈가 우선적 관심을 기울이는 부분이다. 부지내의 모든 식물은 모두 적은 물로도 생존이 가능한 것들로 인근지역에서 조달하였다. 점적관수 및 저수용 화분 시스템을채택, 활용하여 물 사용을 줄일수 있도록 했다. Andaz, the newest brand of Hyatt Regency, opened its West Hollywood doors in January 2009. Andaz, which means “personal style” in Hindi, has come to represent the independent thinker who’s traveling for business or pleasure. The design for the hotel blurs the line between interior and exterior spaces, by using natural materials and creating a seamless elegance throughout. Engaging contemporary art installations, by renowned international artists, are located throughout the hotel. This project was realized by renovating an existing building and sky pool deck. The public spaces such as the rooftop terrace with pool, daybed seating and panoramic views are a primary focus at Andaz. All the plants at the site are low water materials and were sourced locally. Drip irrigation and reservoir pot systems were also designed and incorporated to reduce the use of water.
