Roombeek the Brook

2000년 5월 13일, 네덜란드 엔스헤데 롬벡에 위치한 폭죽 공장이 폭발하면서 주변의 주택들이 모두 파괴되는 사건이 있었다. 이후 이 지역에서는 주민들과 열린 대화를 통해 (거주민들의 활발한 참여로) 재개발과 재건이 이루어지고 있다. 우리의 목표는 이곳에 매력적인 계획을 세우는 것뿐만이 아니라 과거와 미래의 주민들로부터 대중적인 지지를 얻는 것이기도 했다. 설계 과정 동안, 거주민들과 유지 사업자, 계약자 모두가 적극적으로 참여한 것은 매우 돋보이는 점이었으며, 이는 설계에 대한 열렬한 열정을 불러일으키기도 했다.

New attractiveness
On May 13th 2000 a fireworks factory exploded in the Enschede district Roombeek and swept all the houses away. The district is being re-developed and rebuilt (with active participation from the residents) in an open dialogue with the inhabitants. Our mission was not only the making of appealing plans but also getting public support from former and future inhabitants. During the design process, the contribution of both the residents and the maintenance workers and contractors was remarkable. This lead to a wild enthusiasm for the designs.
