Garden Box Best Private Plots First Prize 수상 이 작품의 대상지는 히로시마현 후쿠야마역에서 북쪽으로 1킬로미터 떨어진 곳에 위치한 건물로, ‘숲 속에서 일하는 것’을 원했던 건물 내 세입자들의 희망이 실현된 것이다. 부지는 가로 10미터, 세로 50미터에 불과하며, 건물과 정원, 그리고 10대의 차량만이 임시로 주차할 수 있는 공간이 전부이다. 그래서 녹지 공간을 건물 사이로 빽빽하게 집어넣어야만 했다. 숲 속을 굽이쳐 흘러 내려온 개울이 출입구 옆 연못으로 다다른다.정원은 건물 내 공간을 구분하는 동시에 연결하는 역할을 한다. 벽에 뚫린 창들은 건물 내 식생을 조망하기 위해 조정되는데, 정원을 드러내기 위해 실내가 개방되기도 하고 다시 숲 경관이 시야에서 차단되기도 한다.도로를 지나는 보행자는 정원을 볼 수 없기 때문에, 건물 출입구에“잔디밭 상자lawn b�ox”를 설치하도록 하였다. 이 잔디밭은 자전거 주차 공간으로 이용된다. 그리고 여기에 조명 시설을 갖춘 현판을 설치해 숲이 시작되는 작은 언덕의 푸른 경관의 사토야마 이미지를 보여줌으로써 방문객들은 도시의 모습을 잊고 자연에 도착한 듯한 느낌을 받게 된다. 이것은 근원으로의 회귀라는 일본적 정서에 대한 암시라고 할 수 있는데, ‘인류가 애초에 태어났던 곳(자연)으로 돌아가는 것’을 의미한다.건물주는 1층에서 치과를 운영하고 있는데, 유일하게 이 숲을 개인 정원으로 이용하고 있다. 점심 시간에는 “숲”에 앉아 휴식을 취하기도 하며, 정원에 흐르는 개울에는 물고기를 기른다.To “Work in the forest”was the desire expressed by the tenants of this building, located one kilometer north of Fukuyama Station in Hiroshima Prefecture. The site measures only 10 by 50 meters. In addition to the building and the garden, the brief required parking for ten cars. Therefore, a mori, or forest, was inserted into the architectural hako, or box, as a dense green space. A meandering brook flows through the forest and ends in a pond by the entrance. The garden acts as both a divider of space in the building and a connection device. Openings in the walls are controlled to direct views of the vegetation: the room can be opened to reveal the garden; then, views of the forest are hidden again.As passersby cannot see the garden from the road, a “awn box” was created at the site entrance. This hako serves as a parking area for bicycles. Here, an illuminated signboard displays images of satoyama, the wild, grassy landscape at the foothills of the mountain where the mori begins. This gives visitors the feeling of arriving in nature and moving away from the urban landscape. It is an allusion to the Japanese concept of regression to the origin, by which one returns to the space where the human race was originally born.The owner, who operates a dental clinic on the ground floor, is the only one who uses the mori as a private garden. He sits in the”Forest”to relax during his lunch break, and he keeps a fish in the stream through the garden. Cluny House 이 프로젝트는 테크놀로지와 플랜, 그리고 디자인을 감성적으로 조화시킴으로써 편안하면서도 고급스러우며, 지속 가능한 개인 주택으로 만드는 방법을 증명해내고 있다.수동 냉방 및 십자형 통풍 설계와 더불어 광전지와 태양광 온수기를 설치해 에너지 사용량을 줄이도록 하였다. 관개용 물탱크와 옥상 정원을 통해 빗물을 모아 재활용하도록 하였다. 그리고 재활용 티크(특히 가구의 재료로 많이 쓰이는 단단한 재목) 및 인공 목재 등과 같은 자재의 활용은 한정된 주변의 자원을 소모하지 않고도 보온효과를 높일 수 있다.주택은 중앙에 위치한 대형 연못을 중심으로 자리 잡고 있는데, 이 연못이 이 프로젝트의 핵심이라 할 수 있다. 연못 주변으로 옥상 정원들이 무성하게 우거져 있으며, 이로써 주택 곳곳에서 자연의 존재를 온전히 느낄 수 있다. The project demonstrates how technology, planning and design can be applied sensitively to generate a comfortable, luxurious, yet sustainable family home.Photovoltaic cells and solar water heaters are employed together with design for passive cooling and cross ventilation to reduce energy usage. Irrigation tanks and roof gardens collect and recycle rainwater; and the use of materials such as recycled teak and artificial timber adds warmth without compromising the finite resources of our environment.The house is laid out around a central water court that forms the focal point of the project. Mathilde Square녹지 광장인 마틸드플라인은 아인트호반 도심의 분주함 속에 평화와 고요함을 제공하고 있다. 아인트호반의 중심부 메인 교차로에는 라이트 타워가 위치해 있다. 쉽게 눈에 띄는 이 건물은 도시의 상징물이다. 과거 필립스 사의 건물로 아인트호반의 도상학에서 항상 중요한 역할을 해온 산업 유산으로서, 최근에는 고급 주상복합 타워로 개축되었다. 예전에는 건물의 외부 공간에 중요한 공공 기능이 없었지만, 뷔로 뤼버르스는 이 곳을 조용한 녹지 광장으로 탈바꿈시켰다. 사람들은 쇼핑을 마친 후나 사무실에서 긴 하루를 보낸 뒤, 테라스에서 조용히 한 잔 하거나 울창한 수목 사이에 놓인 벤치에 앉아 정신 없이 바쁜 도시의 일상에서 잠시나마 벗어날 수 있다. 이 새로운 광장은 나름의 방식으로 아인트호반의 중요 아이콘 중 하나인 라이트 타워를 강조하고 있다. As green square, Mathildeplein offers peace and quiet in the hectic city centre of Eindhoven.In the heart of Eindhoven, at an important traffic junction, the Light Tower is situated. It is a striking building that is a recognizable symbol of the city. As the former Philips building, an industrial monument, it has always played a prominent role in the iconography of Eindhoven. Recently it was transformed into a luxury residential and office tower. Whereas before the building’ exterior space did not have a significant public function, Buro Lubbers transformed it into a green, tranquil square. Here, after shopping or a long day at the office, one can quietly enjoy a drink on the terrace or sit down on a bench among lush plants to escape the frenetic activity of downtown Eindhoven. Sudliche LohmuhleninselSudliche Lohmuhleninsel은 베를린Berlin 의 프리드리히스하인-크러이츠벡Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg에 위치한 섬으로, 길이 600미터, 폭 100미터이고, 운하와 댐 건설 붐이 일었던 1845년에서 1850년 사이에 만들어졌다. 무두질하는 노동자들이 나무 껍질을 첨가하여 가죽 제조 기술을 향상시켰는데, 이 섬 이름의 기원이 여기서 나온 것이다.섬은 운하 옆에 있으며 동 베를린과 서 베를린의 경계에 있다. 독일이 분단되어 있을 때에는 국경의 일부분이기도 했었다. 독일이 통일된 후 기존 국경 지역은 공원으로 조성되었고, 그로 인해 녹지가 부족했던 크러이츠벡의 조경이 향상되었다.Sudliche Lohmuhleninsel의 공공 녹지대 재건은 2007년부터 2008년 사이에 완료되었으며, 남녀노소 모두를 위한 쉼터와 운동장으로서 역할을 수행해 왔다. 새로 지은 대형 운동장과 스포츠 도로는 기존의 섬 계획을 더욱 완벽하게 만들어 주었다. Project BackgroundSÜDLICHE LOHMÜHLENINSEL is located in Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, Berlin. The island is 600 meter long, 100 meter wide, and was sprung up with the booming of state canal and dam during 1845 and 1850. Tan workers improved manufacturing of leathers by using barks (tanning materials) as addictive, and SÜDLICHE LOHMÜHLENINSEL got its name from this. The island is next to a canal, which makes it part of the boarder between East and West Berlin; it is also part of the inner boarder of the sate when the country was split. After Germany was reunited, former boarder was reformed into a park, which improved the landscape quality of Kreuzberg for its lack of greening area.Most reconstruction of public greening area on SÜDLICHE LOHMÜHLENINSEL was finished between 2007 and 2008, which provided a good place of exercises and rest for people at different ages. Lyon Meadows Park트루아 근방의 라샤펠생뤽 시에 위치한 리옹 초지공원은 1970년대의“영국 풍경식 정원”을 모델로 하여 만들어진 공원이었다. 그런데 이 공원은 크게 훼손되었고, 시는 조경가들이 이곳 전체를 리노베이션하여 보다 접근하기 좋고 보다 매력적인 공간으로 만들어 주기를 바랐다. 우리의 작업은 토목과 동선, 입구, 식재지 대부분을 리노베이션하고, 특히 젊은 세대를 위한 레저 시설을 여럿 제안하는 것이었다.이를 통해 700㎡ 면적의“스트리트”타입의 콘크리트 스케이트장이 세워졌고, 어린이 놀이터가 디자인되었으며, 미니 골프장이 개축되었고, 공놀이 구역과 운동 코스 등이 만들어졌다. 공원 중심부는 침수 위험이 있어서 비어져 있으며, 사용되지 않는 방대한 초지가 있다. 우리는 선탠과 휴식을 취할 수 있는 170㎡ 면적의 남향 일광욕장을 제안했다. 침수를 대비해 지상 1m에 위치한 나무로 된 배다리와 제방을 이용하여 접근할 수 있도록 했다. 구조물과 배다리가 채광에 통합된다. Located in the town of La Chapelle St-Luc, on the outskirts of Troyes, the ‘rés de Lyon’is a city park which was designed in the 70s on the English garden’model. This park suffered numerous degradations so the town council decided to contract landscape architects to make it more accessible and attractive.BASE’ work consisted in reinstating earthworks, pathways, entrances and most planted plots, proposing several play areas, most of them designed for the young.A 700 sq.m concrete “treet”skate park has been built, along with children playgrounds, a miniature golf course, pétanque playing grounds, a health and fitness trail, etc.At the centre of the park, a vast plain liable to flooding remained dry and unused. BASE proposed the building of a 170 sq.m solarium facing South destined for sunbathing and designed more largely as a chill-out and relaxation area.Access is through a network of wooden pontoons and banks, located 1m high, safe from potential flood risks. Galindez Slope Txurdinaga와 Otxarcoaga 지구는 빌바오Bilbao의 제 3 구역에 위치해 있는 도시의 외곽 지역 중 하나이다.이 지구들은 전후 시대 노동자들을 위한 대량의 주택들이 지어질 때 생겼다. 당시 도시를 둘러싸고 있는 산의 비탈면에도 건물들이 지어지면서 도시 서비스와 인프라는 매우 취약했다. 불균형적인 성장의 결과로 이곳 헤수스 갈린데즈 Jesus Galindez가의 바위 경사면은 도시 내 고립된 지대처럼 남게 되었으며, 오늘날까지도 도시를 물리적 사회적으로 분리시키는 기능을 하고 있다.빌바오 중심지에 도시 인프라의 개선을 위한 대대적인 작업이 진행되었을 때, 시청에서는 아래와 같은 목적으로 도시 외곽 지역에서도 일련의 프로젝트를 진행했다.·외곽 지역의 도시 거주 조건을 향상시킬 것·물리적인 장벽을 제거하여 대부분 험한 경사면에 위치하고 있는 외곽 지역으로의 접근성을 향상시킬 것·사회적 장벽을 제거하고, 외곽 지역의 거주 조건을 도심과 비슷한 수준으로 끌어올리기 위한 환경을 마련할 것 우리의 헤수스 갈린데즈 제방 복원 사업은 반드시 이러한 배경을 살펴 볼 필요가 있다. PREVIOUS SITUATIONThe districts of Txurdínaga and Otxarcoaga are located in Bilbao’ district 3, one of the peripheral areas of the city. Main Street Garden Park도심 재생 전략의 핵심 구성 요소인 이 공원은 도시민의 생활로 북적거리는 생기발랄한 공공 공간으로의 변신을 위해 전체 도시의 건물군과 길을 만들고 있는 주차장을 철거하고 조성되었다. 약 7,000㎡의 공원은 도심 거주지와 상업 지역의 성장을 북돋우기 위해 조성되었으며 인근 고층 빌딩의 거주자들, 대학생들과 교직원들, 사무직 근로자들과 중심가를 쇼핑하는 이용자들의 요구 사항을 반영하여 설계되었다. 공원은 넓은 잔디밭과 공연장, 공공 예술 조명 설치, 지붕에 설치한 옥상 녹화, 휴게 공간, 유아용 놀이터, 중앙광장, 독특한 도시형 개천으로 조형성 있는 수공간, 줄무늬형 정원, 도심 내 애완동물 산책로, 환하게 빛나는 도서관 쉘터, 그늘진 구조물과 도처에 있는 멋진 그림들로 가득 차 있다. 교묘하게 설치된 조명은 정원 공간의 쉘터에 생기를 불어넣고 있으며 저녁 내내 중심가 가로의 경계부를 돋보이게 한다.넓은 잔디밭과 카페의 테라스에서부터 분수 광장과 정원 공간에 이르는 이 다양한 공간들은 근교의 주민들을 초대하고 도시 행사를 주최하며, 일상적인 공간으로 댈러스 도심에 생기와 다양성을 불어넣어 주고 있다.Thomas Balsley Associates was selected from an outreach to national and international design firms to design a new park for the Dallas Central District the first of three called for in its open space master plan. A key component in the downtown revitalization strategy, Main Street Garden Park required the razing of an entire city block of buildings and garages making way for its transformation into a vibrant public space teeming with civic life. This two-acre park is intended to foster downtown residential and commercial growth and is being designed to accommodate the needs of residents in adjacent high-rise residential buildings, university students and faculty, office workers and Main Street shoppers. Extensive public outreach and a carefully designed program for this constituency will ensure the park’s success and sustained public embrace. The design of the park acknowledges adjacent architecturally significant buildings such as the Beaux Arts City Hall and Mercantile Bank Building yet strikes a dramatic 21st century design profile at this key location in Dallas’s emerging new urban core. The park includes an open lawn and performance space, a public art installation of light, a green roof civic canopy, seating areas, tot lot, central plaza, a unique “urban stream” sculptural water feature, a “striated”garden, an urban dog run, illuminated glass study-room shelters, shade structures and lush plantings throughout. An artful light installation will animate the garden room shelters and enhance the Main Street corridor edge throughout the evening. 디자인으로 채워지는 광주, 시민들의 참여로까지 이어져2011광주디자인비엔날레는 도심 재생 및 세계적 디자인 도시로서의 기반 구축을 위해 추진하는 어반폴리Urban Folly 프로젝트의 구체적인 디자인 시안들을 공개하였다. 이 행사는 광주 시내에 총 10곳의 폴리Folly를 선정하여 도시 내의 장소에 대한 개념을 회복하는 기회를 제공하고 사람들로부터 그들의 환경에 대한 적극적인 참여를 유도하여 낙후된 광주 시내를 재건하는데 도움을 주는데 목적을 두고 있다. 승효상과 아이웨이웨이가 공동 감독을 맡았으며, 장동 교차로, 제봉로 김재규 경찰학원 앞, 대한생명 사거리, 충장로 파출소 등 9곳이 폴리로 선정되었다. 광주세무서 앞 사거리는 (국제)현상 설계 공모 당선작으로 대체하였다. 당선작에는“열린 장벽”의정세훈, 김세진(오우재 건축사사무소)이 선정되었다. 건축가들은 보고회를 통해 어반폴리 작품 디자인과 작품 해설을 시민들에게 직접 설명하기도 하면서 한국의 도시 환경 정비 사업 방법의 미래를 토론하는 기회도 가졌다. 본 고에서는 10곳의 어반폴리를 자세히 소개한다. 편집자주 자료제공_광주비엔날레 재단

New Visions for Pedestrian Footbridge Design Competition보행자 전용 다리는 이스탄불에서 가장 번화한 구역 중의 한 곳에 위치하고 있는데, 중심지에서 역사적인 반도쪽으로의 축으로 이어져 있었다. 이 축은 중간에 배치된 트램노선으로 인해 교통 부하가 걸리는 중요한 부분으로 드러났다. 그 때문에 이 보행다리는 이 지역 내 교통 수단의 가장 중요한 교차로의 역할을 하며 보행자의 이동을 해결하는 수단이 되었다.보행자들의 움직임이 이루는 축은 디자인을 결정하는 전략적인 요소가 되었다. 이러한 요소들은 트램역의 동쪽과 서쪽에 있는 횡단보도에 의해 서로 연결되어 있고 중앙의 보행자 전용 다리 옆의 역으로 연결된다.필요로 하는 보행자 전용 노선은 도시 전략의 기준으로 여겨지는 시간대별에 의해 만들어 진다. 차량 교통을 통제하면서 요구된 보행자들의 행태를 위한 최소한의 구역이 결정되었다. 이 구역은 공중으로 6m 올려 상업적이고 문화적인 행태에 의해 형성된 보행자들의 광장을 강화시켰다. 광장은 또한 주변 거주자들을 요구로 작은 규모의 공원으로 변형되었다. 주변 환경으로부터 이곳저곳이 고립되었기 때문에 축이 시각적 깊이를 더해주는 연결 고리 역할을 하고 있다. 구조물의 콘크리트 상판은 보강 콘크리트 기둥이 지지하고 있는 상부에 놓인 철제 빔에 의해 받쳐져 있다. 콘크리트 상판을 둘러싸고 있는 벽의 높이는 철제 프레임 빔에 의해 형성되는데 이 빔들은 장소에 맞게 조정되어 있다. 이러한 빔들은 또한 넓은 바닥판의 안정성을 유지해준다. 엘리베이터 주변의 철근 구조물은 수직적인 수송 체계를 지탱하고 있다. The footbridge is located in one of the busiest districts of Istanbul. It holds the main axe connecting the center to the historic peninsula, baring an important portion of the traffic load, with the tram route taking place on the middle. Therefore, it covers the most important crossroads of vehicle and pedestrian movement in the region. The axial movement of the pedestrians are taken into account to determine the strategic points for the design. These points are connected to each other by the pedestrian crosswalks on the east and west sides of the tram station and connected to the station by the footbridge at the middle. The desired pedestrian routes established by time constitute the basis of the proposed urban strategy. Eliminating the vehicle traffic, the minimum area for the desired pedestrian motion is determined. This area is lifted 6 meters into the air and is enriched to be a pedestrian square by commercial and cultural activities. The square is also been transformed into small-scale park as needed for the surrounding settlements. As it isolates itself from its surroundings from place to place, it is linked where the axes expose the depth of perspective. ConstructionThe concrete floor plate of the structure is carried by the steel beams resting on top of the reinforced concrete columns. The heights of the walls sorrounding the concrete floor plate is formed by the steel frame beams that will be adapted in place. These beams also maintain the stability of the wide floor plate.
