대명리조트의 첫 번째 사업장인 설악리조트가 기존 시설을 업그레이드하고 신규 시설을 더하는 등 대대적인 시설 증축으로 델피노 골프 앤 리조트로 새롭게 태어났다. 설악리조트는 1990년 처음 개관한 이래 그동안 강원도 설악권을 찾는 많은 여행객들의 주요 거점이 되어왔으나, 개관한 지 20년이 지난 리조트의 초기모델로서 식재 위주의 단순한 외부환경과 부대시설의 부족 및 노후화가 진행됨에 따라 이용객들의 최근 달라진 여행 패턴 및 높아진 눈높이에 맞는 개선작업이 필요했다.
우선 기존 시설인 2개동의 콘도와 물놀이시설인 아쿠아월드, 9홀의 대중골프장을 새로 단장하였으며, 추가로 콘도와 호텔, 빌리지를 신축하고 9홀의 신규 골프코스를 증설하여 총 18홀의 골프코스를 갖춘 골프리조트로 재탄생하였다. 이로써 봄, 여름, 가을에는 골프를 즐길 수 있으며, 여름에는 아쿠아월드를, 겨울에는 온천욕과 눈과 얼음으로 이루어진 스노우파크, 아이스링크 등 다양한 체험이 가능한 4계절 복합 휴양리조트로서의 면모를 강화하게 되었다.
리조트의 새 이름인 ‘델피노’는 소나무를 뜻하는 스페인어 ‘pino’에서 가져왔다. 기존의 리조트가 설악산 중턱에 위치해 소나무림으로 둘러싸여 있던 자연환경을 고스란히 담아낸 것이다. 때문에 단지 곳곳을 소나무를 주요수종으로 식재하였으며, 실제로 초점식재용을 제외하고는 골프장 증설부지에서 자생하던 것들을 가식장에 이식해두었다가 사용하기도 하였다.
Recently Daemyung Resort celebrated grand opening of Del Pino Golf and Resort after renovating Seorak Resort, the enterprise’s rst leisure facility, through expansion of guestroom buildings and additional construction of golf courses. Since its opening in 1990, Seorak Resort had been quite successful in serving as one of the top tourist destinations in Seorak region in Gangwon-do, but the monotonous landscape of trees and plants and the deterioration of subsidiary facilities led to a large-scale renovation project.
The first phase of the project includes renovating two buildings of condominiums, Aqua World, and public 9-hole golf course. The construction of a new guestroom building, a hotel, and an additional 9-hole golf course has turned the old resort into a brand-new leisure and vacation facility.
Del Pino, the new name of the resort, comes from a Spanish word for a pine tree. As the resort is located halfway up Mt. Seorak, surrounded by a dense forest of pine trees, the name seems appropriate. Pine trees have been planted throughout the resort complex.
