베트남의 경제수도 호찌민시를 가로질러 흐르는 사이공강. 최근 이 강변에 호찌민 남부의 새로운 랜드마크가 될 GS건설의 고급 아파트인 ‘자이 리버뷰 팰리스(Xi Riverview Palace, 이하 자이 리버뷰)’가 오랜 공사를 마치고 마침내 그 웅장한 위용을 드러냈다.
아파트가 들어선 타오디엔 안푸지역은 호찌민 시내 최고의 부촌으로 손꼽힌다. 유유히 흘러가는 사이공 강변을 따라 외국인들이 거주하는 고급 빌라가 밀집해 있으며 명문 국제학교들이 많아 베트남 최고의 학군을 자랑한다. 강 조망을 뜻하는 ‘리버뷰(Riverview)’에 궁전을 뜻하는 ‘팰리스(Palace)’란 이름이 붙은 것도 바로 이런 연유. 강물이 3면을 휘감아 돌아가기 때문에 3개동 어디에서나 시원하게 펼쳐진 강 전망을 바라볼 수 있다.
주출입구가 시작되는 보행자 거리에 들어서면 남국의 정취를 물씬 풍기는 대왕야자(Roystonia regia, Royal Palm)가 줄지어 서있고, 야자수 우측편의 부드러운 곡선이 돋보이는 수경시설에는 시원한 물줄기를 뿜어내는 캔들분수와 화려한 조명이 공간의 활기를 불어 넣어주며 입주민을 맞이한다. Main Zone에는 장중한 멋을 지닌 대형 벤자민 고무나무(Ficus benjamina, Weeping Fig)가 포인트 식재되어 있어 진입감을 강조해주며 마치 특급호텔에 들어서는 양 고급스러운 느낌을 더해 준다.
3층 Podium공간의 조경은 마치 고급 휴양 리조트에 온 느낌을 주고자 했으며, 빛·바람·감성이 통하는 공간으로 만드는데 주안점을 두었다.
이곳에 들어서면 중앙에 자리 잡은 부드러운 곡선의 코발트 빛 야외 수영장이 눈앞에 펼쳐진다. 1.3~1.4미터 깊이의 수영장은 둘레를 따라 턱을 조성하지 않고 월류(overflow)형태의 배수구를 설치하여 포장면과 물높이를 동일하게 맞춰 심플하게 처리한 점이 돋보인다. 여기에 썬베드와 파라솔이 한데 어우러져 마치 남국의 휴양지에 온 듯한 착각을 불러일으킨다. 한편 이곳은 각 동에 위치한 자이안 센터의 출입구가 연결되는 곳이어서 주민들 간의 정서적 교감이 일어나는 커뮤니티의 장으로서의 역할도 한다.

Becoming a landmark of the region, a new highclass apartment complex, ‘Xi Riverview Palace,’ has been recently completed in the riverside of the Saigon River in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The complex consists of three buildings of twenty seven stories that include two hundred seventy units in total.
Thao Dien district where the complex is located is one of the wealthiest areas in the downtown Ho Chi Minh City. There are a number of fine villas of foreigners densely placed along the Saigon River.
The name, ‘Riverview Palace,’ also represents this exclusiveness. Any of the three buildings has a nice panoramic view towards the river since the three sides of the complex are wound by water.
This concept of exclusiveness is reflected in landscaping. The most notable characteristic is the amount of green. Particularly knowing that ordinary Vietnamese apartment complexes have just a few trees in leftover space of them, this complex has quite a bit of green area compared to them.
Stepping in the main entrance, you would first see the rows of Royal Palms (Roystonia regia ). Energizing the space, candle fountains and glaring lightings on the right side of the palm trees are welcoming visitors. A weeping fig(Ficus benjamina) is planted in the main zone as a focal point whose transplantation is known as the biggest as well as the first large tree transplanting project in Vietnam.
The landscape area of the podium space is intended to create a feeling of high class holiday resort. An outdoor swimming pool of soft curved lines and cobalt color is located in the middle. To achieve fine simplicity of the space, overflow drain is installed along the circumference of the 1.3~1.4meter deep pool so that the water level is set exactly same as the level of the paving surface. Having sunbeds and parasols creates an illusion that you are in a nice summer vacation resort. This also performs as a community place where the entrances of each Xian Centers are connected and residents share each other’s feeling.
