Gwanggyo Lake Park
광교신도시를 대표하는 공간이자 상징이 된 광교호수공원은 기존 원천저수지와 신대저수지를 기반으로 조성되었다. 저수지는 기능적으로 농업용수와 홍수조절을 위해 생겼으나, 1970년대 급격한 도시화 속에서 교외의 유원지로 변모되었다. 유원지로 조성된 후 경기남부 지역 주민들의 공원으로서 사랑받았던 이곳은 오래된 세월의 켜를 증명이라도 하듯 시설낙후와 위락시설로 인하여 사람들로부터 점점 외면 받는 장소가 되었다. 저수지의 기능은 변화되었지만 공동체의 장으로서, 쉼터로서 우리와 함께한 저수지가 또 다시 변화를 시도한다.
이후 2004년 광교택지개발예정지구에 원천·신대호수 일원이 포함되면서 다시 주목을 받게 되었고, 2008년 국내 조경설계 공모로는 최초로 RFQ(Request for Qualification:참가의향서)방식으로 진행되었으며, 국내외 8개 업체가 지명초청 되어 경쟁을 하였다.
약 5개월간의 레이스를 마친 결과, 당선작인 신화컨설팅의 ‘어반 레저버(Urban Reservoir)’를 기반으로 약 5년 동안의 실시설계 및 조성공사를 거쳐 지난 4월, 높은 기대 속에 광교호수공원이 새롭게 태어났다.
어번레비와 6개 둠벙
광교호수공원은 원천호수와 신대호수 그리고 근린공원(6호) 일대를 말하는데 원천호수가 먼저 완공되었고, 5개월 이후 신대호수가 그 모습을 드러냈다. 사람들의 이동통로이자 휴식, 모임의 장소였던 기존 제방에서 이어지는 새로운 제방 “어번레비”와 땅이 가진 고유한 특성으로 부터 새롭게 창조된 장소인 “6개의 둠벙”으로 조성하였다.
6개 둠벙은 신비한 물너미(Secret of the Water Cylinder), 다목적체험장(Multipurpose Lawn), 행복한 들(Field of Joy(Korean Picnic)), 조용한 물 숲 & 향긋한 꽃 섬(Silent Water Forest and Flower Island), 먼 섬숲(Remote Island Forest), 재미난 밭(The Fun Field) 등으로 원천호수와 신대호수 주변 곳곳에 조성되어 도시의 다이내믹한 삶으로 작동하는 호수공원의 역할을 톡톡히 해내고 있다.

In 2008, the International Design Competition for Gwanggyo Lake Park was held for the creation of a lakeside park around Woncheon Reservoir and Sindae Reservoir(2,025,535㎡), which will be a natural and cultural landmark of the Gwanggyo New Town. For the first time in Korea for the landscape design competition, RFQ(Request for Qualification) was introduced that 8 Korean and international designated invitees were selected. “Urban Soft Power” by Synwha Consulting won the first prize, and it was completed after 5years’ working design and construction.
Woncheon Reservoir has been a place of memory and relaxation for the people of Suwon and the southern part of the greater Seoul area, while Sindae Reservoir provided fishing spots and agricultural water. Focusing on the location of the reservoirs at the heart of a city, fulfilling the function of agricultural reservoir, urban nature, and dynamic urban life, and respecting the vernacular values and cultural memories of the site, we designed a lakeside park which will be a creative and cultural infrastructure of the Gwanggyo New Town.
“Urban Levee” bank, which connects existing bank used as corridor and place for relaxation and meeting, and new “Six Dumbung(puddles),” which reflects the intrinsic values of the site, are introduced.
