Thank You for Your Support All These Years
현재 한국조경은 매우 어려운 처지입니다. 물론, 이는 비단 우리 분야만이 아니라 건설 분야 전체의 어려움이며, 국가경제적인 문제이기도 합니다. 장년이 된 한국의 조경분야가 이제 비로소 제대로 된 일을 하려는 시점에 이런 어려움을 겪게 되어 매우 안타깝습니다. 그러나 길게 보면 지금까지 어려움이 어디 한두 번이었습니까? 어려움을 잘 넘기며 더 크게 성장해 온 것이 우리 조경분야의 특성이었습니다.
저는 우리 조경인들의 의지와 저력을 믿습니다. 조경과 관련된 학회와 단체, 언론, 기업, 관련 공무원이 손을 맞잡고 함께하면 이 어려움을 극복하지 못할 것도 없다고 생각합니다.
이제 더 나은 발전을 위해 다음 세대에 바통Baton을 넘깁니다. 30년은 한 세대를 의미하기에, 새로운 사고를 가진 세대가 맡을 시점이라고 늘 생각해 왔습니다. 다행히 선뜻 그 역할을 맡아준 이가 있어 마음이 든든하며 또 홀가분합니다. 제게 있어 <환경과조경>은 단순한 언론 매체가 아니라 소명이자 의무였고, 사명감이었습니다.
이제 <환경과조경>은 지난 30년간의 경험을 밑돌삼아 새로운 힘과 에너지로 다시 또 힘차게 달릴 것을 기대합니다.
조경인 여러분!
지금처럼 앞으로도 계속 <환경과조경>에 대한 많은 성원을 부탁드립니다. 이제 다시 새 출발하는 <환경과조경>이 한국조경의 미래를 위해서라도 그 역할을 다할 수 있어야 합니다. 저는 박명권 대표가 그 소명을 다할 것을 믿어 의심치 않습니다. 우리 모두 조경의 발전을 위해 뜻을 모읍시다. 지금의 수준에 만족하지 말고, 지금의 어려움을 이겨내고, 더 큰 내일의 희망을 향해 나아가 봅시다.

Landscape architecture in Korea is now going through some hard times. It is true that the construction industry as a whole is experiencing difficulties, and so is the country. I am deeply sorry that the industry of landscape architecture is being confronted with serious problems by the time it is about to spread its wings. Yet I’m also aware that there have been so many obstacles like this so far, and finally it will be over sooner than later.
The industry could be characterized by its resilience: it will recover and continue to grow. I strongly believe in the willpower and potential of people working for the industry. With each and every association, organization, media, corporation, and government authority standing together, the industry will overcome the current economic
situation and thrive again in the near future.
The magazine has just been handed down to the next generation. As 30 years usually means a generation, I am sure it’s the right time. Since I am lucky enough to have someone whom I can put my trust in, I’m feeling confident and relieved. ‘Environment and Landscape Architecture Korea’ has been not just news media but my calling, my responsibility, and my sense of duty. I hope that the magazine can make a new beginning using its 30 year experience as a new source of energy.

I’m expecting your continuous support for the magazine for many years to come. 〈ELA〉 will and should play a critical role in the development of landscape architecture in Korea. Undoubtedly Mr. Park Myung-kwon is the right person to take care of this mission. Please come and put your heads together. Never be satisfied with the present situation. Get over a difficulty and move forward to the brighter future!
