디큐브시티는 대성산업(주)가 30년 동안 대규모의 연탄공장을 운영하던 서울시 구로구 신도림동 일대의 공장부지 위에 새로운 Life Style의 생활화와 지속적인 도시의 변화를 이루고자 하는 노력의 일환으로 최첨단 기술력을 바탕으로한 복합문화시설을 유치함으로써 탄생하게 되었다. 네덜란드의 조경설계회사인 Oikosdesign landscape + architecture(대표 아네모네)이 디자인한 디큐브시티는 외부광장과 실내공간을 “자연과 문화의 연계”라는 핵심컨셉으로 조경을 포함한 조형적인 조화와 표현으로 Landscape, Lighting, Art work, Water feature, Construction 및 Interior design 등을 통합하는 창의적인 환경 디자인 설계로 완성되었다. 특히 디큐브시티가 많은 조경가들과 디자이너들에게 주목받고 있는 이유는 최초의 설계계획안을 설계변경 없이 100% 완벽하게 구현하였다는 점과 준공 후에도 소재와 식재, 시민들의 공간 이용행태 등을 꾸준히 모니터링하여 조경가의 설계 의도가 지속적으로 유지될 수 있도록 하는 사후 관리 과정이 체계적으로 잘 되어있다는 점이다. 또한 디큐브시티를 계획한 대성산업(주)는 전체 면적의 30%를 서울시에 기부하여 지역주민들을 위한 기업의 사회적 책임을 실천하였으며 준공 이후에도 광장 관련구역을 지속적으로 유지관리하여 시민들에게 서비스 편의를 제공하고 있다.
본지는 2012년 8월호와 9월호에 걸쳐 디큐브시티의 소개와 조경가의 설계의도, 설계 컨셉을 비롯해 소재 및 식재, 준공 후 중점 점검 사항 및 사후 관리 프로그램 등을 소개하고자 한다.

D-Cube City, where there used to be home to a large coal processing plant owned by Daesung Corporation for last 30 years, sets a new standard in mixed-use cultural complex. High-end technologies are introduced to lead new life style and sustainable urban changes. Designed by the Netherlands-based landscape design studio Oikosdesign landscape + architecture with its founding partner Anemone Beck Koh, this place formulates a co-existence of nature and culture. It integrates outdoor plaza and indoor space by creative environment design embracing landscape, lighting, artworks, water features, architecture as well as interior design. What attracts the attention of many landscape architects and designers is that it fully realized its original design concepts without signicant changes and provides constant design maintenance system by monitering materials, plantation, and user behavior patterns. Futhermore, Daesung D-Cube City donated 30% of the space to the Seoul Metropolitan Government to practice corporate social responsibility for the community. It also constantly maintains square area for the convenience of the citizens.
In this August issue and next one, we will introduce the D-Cube City and its planning concepts, design concepts, materials and plantation, major supervision points after completion as well as maintenance programs.
