빠른 인구 증가와 더불어 화석 원료가 유한해진 지구촌을 위한 대책이 필요해짐에 따라, 중동의 걸프 국가들은 괄목할 만한 변화를 위해 준비 태세를 갖추고 있다. 이 중 아부다비는 경제적 다양화 측면에서 두각을 드러내고 있는 나라 중 하나이며, 관광, 특히 문화관광에 대한 투자가 아부다비 비전의 중심에 있다.
Saadiyat사디엣 섬은 지속가능한 복합 용도 개발을 창출하기 위한 동력으로 문화 관광을 활용하고자 한다. Saadiyat의 비전은 프랭크 게리, 노먼 포스터, 장 누벨이 설계한 건축물, 대중교통 시스템, 6만 명을 위한 주거, 학교와 공공 시설, 다양한 관광 리조트를 세계적 수준의 문화 지구로 통합하는 것이다. Saadiyat은 낮에는 22만 명의 근로자를 수용하게 되는데, 상당수가 박물관과 갤러리와 같은 문화 기관과 연계된 지식기반 사업에 종사하게 될 것이다.
With rapidly growing populations and the need to plan for a post-oil, carbonlimited world, the Gulf States are poised for considerable change. Abu Dhabi is among those taking the lead in economic diversification and a central part of its vision is investment in tourism, especially cultural tourism.
The ambition for Saadiyat Island is to use cultural tourism as a driver to create sustainable mixed-use development. Saadiyat’ vision integrates a worldclass cultural district with buildings by Frank Gehry, Norman Foster and Jean Nouvel, a public transport system, and homes for 160,000 people, along with schools, civic facilities
and a range of tourist resorts. Saadiyat will also accommodate 220,000 daytime workers, many of them in knowledge-based industries related to the cultural institutions including museums and galleries.
